Healthy Acadia Welcomes Sara Gavit as Board Chair

We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Sara Gavit as the Chair of Healthy Acadia’s Board of Directors. Sara steps into the role previously held by Martha Thompson-Wagner, who served as Chair since 2016. We extend our deepest gratitude to Martha for her years of unwavering dedication and service to Healthy Acadia's mission and vision.

Hailing from Wayne, Nebraska, Sara was captivated by the strong sense of community found in Downeast Maine. Currently serving as the Rector at St. Anne's Church in Calais, Sara has immersed herself in the local landscape, embracing its beauty and its people.

Sara joined our Healthy Acadia Board of Directors in December 2020, bringing with her a deep commitment to community and a passion for our organization's mission. Sara’s decision stems from her admiration and affinity for Healthy Acadia's comprehensive efforts to promote and enhance community health and well-being and the tireless dedication of its staff and volunteers. She resonates deeply with our organization’s mission and values, seeing them as a reflection of her own beliefs and aspirations.

Reflecting on her involvement, Sara shares, “Healthy Acadia promotes and supports the kind of community engagement and service that I strive to do in my professional and personal life. I'm inspired by the creativity, hospitality, good humor, and passion that drives all the programs Healthy Acadia offers. Starting with a vision, then making it a reality, is a gift. I am honored to be part of this group, all of us working toward the common goal of community wellness.”

For Sara, the St. Croix River Valley is not just a location; it's home. She finds solace and joy in walking and hiking the trails scattered throughout the Downeast region, savoring the natural splendor that Maine has to offer.

Join us in extending a warm welcome to Sara Gavit as she takes on the role of Chair of Healthy Acadia’s Board of Directors. With her leadership and unwavering dedication, we look forward to advancing our mission of fostering community wellness and resilience throughout the region. Together, we can create a healthier, more vibrant future for all.
