Healthy Habits for Healthy Smiles

February is National Children's Dental Health Month. Promoted by the American Dental Association ADA, the month-long national health awareness campaign brings together thousands of professionals, health care providers and educators to promote the benefits of good oral health to children, their caregivers, teachers, and others.

The National Children’s Dental Health Month theme for 2024 is “Healthy Habits for Healthy Smiles!”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), dental caries (cavities) remains one of the most common chronic childhood diseases in the United States, affecting millions of children each year. However, many dental problems can be prevented through early intervention and education on proper oral hygiene practices.

By instilling healthy habits early in life, including regular dental check-ups, proper oral hygiene practices, and maintaining a nutritious diet, we can help children lay the foundation for a lifetime of good oral health.

  • Start kids on the path to healthy smiles by encouraging these healthy habits:

  • Brush twice a day .

  • Floss every day.

  • Eat a healthy diet.

  • Limit sugary drinks.

  • See a dentist at least twice a year.

Throughout February, dental clinics, schools, and community organizations across the country are hosting educational events and outreach programs to promote oral health awareness. These initiatives may include free dental screenings, interactive workshops, and distribution of educational materials to encourage healthy dental habits at home and in schools.
