Northeast
Creek Farm
Healthy Acadia
is partnering with Maine
Coast Heritage Trust (MCHT) and the MDI Housing Authority
to explore the feasibility of making more local land available
for food production.
MCHT and the Housing
Authority recently purchased the Northeast Creek Farm property,
formerly known as the Pooler Farm or Keif Farm, in Salisbury
Cove. This remarkable property has many acres of fields, woods,
and wetlands bordering Northeast Creek. A portion of the property
will be used for affordable community housing, and approximately
100 acres will become a natural preserve. Healthy Acadia is
working with partners to determine the feasibility of making
several acres of the field accessible to a local farmer to
grow fresh food for community members.
With land costs
rising ever-higher, and land in high demand here in coastal
Maine, we hope that the Northeast Creek Farm project will
model an innovative and proactive way to make sure that there
is always land available for local food production. For more
information about this project, please contact Doug Michael,

release.
