Downeast Restorative Justice Training Opportunities

Are you interested in learning about restorative justice?

Join Downeast Restorative Justice on Thursday, February 16, 2023, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at Healthy Acadia’s INSPIRE Center, 24 Church Street, Ellsworth for a free informational session and discussion explore the philosophy of Restorative Practices, Restorative Justice, and Transformative Justice, and learn about their regional programs.

Restorative justice is a philosophical approach to justice that seeks to repair harm that has been caused by wrongdoing and incarceration by emphasizing the rehabilitation and restoration of relationships between the offender, the victim, and the community, as opposed to traditional justice models that focus primarily on punishment and retribution. The main goal of restorative justice is to bring all affected members of the community together to work to find a resolution that addresses the harm that has been caused and helps everyone to move forward.

This approach views wrongdoing as a harm done to people and relationships, rather than just a violation of laws or social rules. It seeks to address the root causes of the offending behavior while holding people accountable for their actions in a way that seeks to repair harm and restore relationships. In a restorative justice process, people are encouraged to take responsibility for their actions and work to make amends to those affected by them.
