Welcome, Rae!

Please join us in welcoming Rae Rowell to our Healthy Acadia team! Rae hit the ground running several weeks ago when she began her AmeriCorps Summer Associate service position in Washington County. She is currently serving under Goodwill Industries of Northern New England's VISTA program. At the end of August, she will transition to continue serving our community through the Department of Agriculture, Conservation, and Forestry's program as part of the Maine Ending Hunger by 2030 initiative.

Hailing from Minneapolis, Minnesota, Rae studied Animal Veterinary Science, Sustainable Agriculture, and Secondary Science Education at the University of Maine (Orono) and Bemidji State University, Bemidji, MN. She taught science and mathematics at the high school level for 21 years.
What influenced your decision to join our team?
Healthy Acadia finds ways to creatively solve problems that down east communities encounter. My interview with Regina motivated me to think "outside the box " so I could do the summer internship.

What most inspires you about this work?
Working with Regina, the students, and other volunteers inspires me to give my best to the Gleaning Initiative projects.

What most inspires you on a personal level?

My family, youth that I have taught, and "action speaks louder than words."

What is your favorite thing to do, or place to be, in Maine, and why?

My favorite activity is hiking a trail in Maine. The natural beauty of Maine makes me grateful for all the good things in my life.

Rae shares a small apartment with her husband, two dogs, and one cat, in the beautiful woods of East Machias. Contact Rae by email at rae.rowell@healthyacadia.org.
